Cards Briefs: NCR Is Rolling Out Cheaper ATM Model

NCR Corp. has introduced a low-cost automated teller machine, the LCD Cash Dispenser, for low-traffic locations.

NCR would not say how much the model costs, but said it is the company's least-expensive machine. NCR also offers the MCD Cash Dispenser, described as a more robust mini-retail ATM.

The LCD comes with a full personal computer processor, a 2,500-note dispenser upgradeable to two cassettes, 40 megabytes of flash memory for graphics, and a 7.5-inch color screen.

NCR is at the forefront of the rapidly growing retail ATM market, said Neal Schwartz, vice president of ATM solutions for retail locations. We see the need for a simplified retail product -- from design to functionality -- for the ATM user and owner.
