MIDDLE ATLANTIC

Chase Manhattan Bank, New York, promoted Maria Elena Lagomasino to senior managing director and head of the global private banking group.

She is to assume control of worldwide private banking services, succeeding Arjun K. Mathrani, senior managing director of the asset management and private banking group, who has said he would leave the company at yearend.

Ms. Lagomasino had been a managing director in charge of private banking for the Americas.

She joined Chase in 1983 as manager and division executive in Chase Private Banking International. In 1989 she was promoted to area executive for the Western Hemisphere. In 1994 she was named market executive for the Americas. When Chase merged with Chemical Banking Corp. last year, she was given the additional duty of U.S. private banking.
