Citi signs screen phone deal with Philips.

WASHINGTON -- Citicorp announced at the Info-Telecom Conference here the formal signing of a contract with Philips Home Services for delivery of banking services via the Philips P100 screen phone.

The companies have been working for several years on developing an enhanced telephone suitable for banking transactions, as well as travel reservations and electronic directories. The P100 has been tested in New York state and will be part of an extensive home service offering by Ameritech in Chicago and other parts of the Midwest.

The unit of Holland-based Philips Electronics said the collaboration with the biggest U.S. bank will help make home banking "as natural and common as the corner bank machine."

Separately, Citibank said it will soon begin marketing its personal computer banking service in the Chicago area.
