Compliance with PCI on the Rise in U.K.

Compliance with the Payment Card Industry data security standard is increasing in the United Kingdom, according to Logic Group Enterprises Ltd.

The London card processor said last month that 25% of U.K. merchants were adhering to the PCI requirements, up from 15% a year earlier, and 46% expect to be compliant within 12 months.

The survey of 200 U.K. merchants was conducted in October. Most (83%) said their companies were "more or significantly more" secure due to the requirements.

Eighty-eight percent said they perceived some benefit from PCI compliance, while 12% expressed doubts that the standard had helped them.

In 2005, the first time Logic Group conducted its PCI survey, 30% questioned the benefits of the standard.

Most of the respondents were retailers, and all were customers of Logic Group, which offers loyalty and card processing.
