PHILADELPHIA -- CoreStates Financial Corp. said it completed the sale of PNB Australia Ltd. to a unit of State Street Boston Corp.
The companies announced a definitive sale agreement in March and have not disclosed the terms. PNB Australia, a trade-finance merchant bank with $84 million in assets, was renamed State Street Finance Ltd.
The top five banks and thrifts have combined total assets of nearly $13 trillion.
After several quarters of slumping investment banking and trading fees, the Charlotte, North Carolina-based company reported a big uptick from that division, which helped compensate for a large decline in net interest income.
