A page 1 article Monday, "ABA Offers Helping Hand on Thrift Fund," misinterpreted part of a letter from Rep. Marge Roukema, chairman of the House Banking subcommittee on financial institutions, as expressing doubt that the thrift fund's problems are urgent.

In fact, the New Jersey Republican made clear elsewhere in her letter to FDIC Chairman Ricki Helfer that the undercapitalized fund was "a matter of grave concern."
