Correction: 07/31/97 issue

Several mistakes appeared in the rankings of legal counsel that ran in the July 31 M&A Midyear Review because of omissions in data supplied to American Banker. The chart labeled "Top Legal Counsel" (page 4A) failed to account for Sullivan & Cromwell's role in advising First Bank System on its acquisition of U.S. Bancorp, and for Silver Freedman & Taff's role in advising Magna Bancorp on its sale to Union Planters Corp. A corrected chart appears below. Also, the firms' roles in these transactions were omitted from the summary ranking, "Financial Advisers and Legal Counsel," on page 8A. And Sullivan & Cromwell should have been listed at the top legal adviser in the west in the chart on page 23A. Finally, because of an editing error, the chart labeled "Top Legal Adviser by Deal Value-Nonbank" (page 22A) gave a garbled figure for Sullivan & Cromwell. The correct amount is $3.474 billion.
