A brief item Sept. 10 on page 24 understated the amount that Ambase Corp. is seeking to recover from the government in a regulatory goodwill suit. The Greenwich, Conn., company is seeking more than $500 million, which it says it has lost on its investment in the former Carteret Savings Bank in Morristown, N.J., since federal law was changed to bar financial institutions from writing off over 40 years the negative net worth of failing institutions they had been encouraged by the government to acquire.
