Because of editing errors, a headline and article Friday on page 6 overstated Fannie Mae’s role in a program under which Citizens Trust Bank in Atlanta will help its employees buy homes.

Fannie created the program for its own employees; it encourages other companies to set up similar programs, and helps them do so.

It does not help them fund the loans. The 3,100 loans that the article said Fannie had made “in tandem with 200 companies” were in fact Fannie Mae’s loans to its own employees. About 200 companies have established programs inspired by Fannie’s.

Finally, the last paragraph of the story should have read: “Fannie hopes 1,000 employers will be running such programs by 2010. To help, Citizens plans to promote the concept to its business customers soon.”
