The Thursday article "2000 Delivered a Net Gain for Bank Branches" on page 1 inaccurately paraphrased a quote from James Scurlock, senior manager at the Cap Gemini Ernst & Young financial services practice in Boston. Mr. Scurlock did not say Internet banks have tapped as much customer growth as they ever will. Rather he said: "Internet banks will not grow as rapidly in the coming years as compared to past years. Compound annual growth rate is slowing for most pure plays."

Another quote, from Mark Parsells, chief operating officer of Citibank Online, was wrongly attributed to Mr. Scurlock. It was Mr. Parsells who criticized the recent trend of Internet-only banks partnering with retail stores that have nothing to do with banking.
