Deutsche Bank has tapped a BT Alex. Brown Inc. executive to head its North American equities effort.
David M. DiPietro, Bankers Trust's head of global equity capital markets, will also coordinate the German bank's equity derivatives activities in North America.
But the responsibility for Deutsche's global equities effort will remain in Europe after the Frankfurt-based bank completes its acquisition of Bankers Trust-which may come as early as Friday.
Mr. DiPietro will report to two Deutsche Bank executives based in London-Michael Philipp and Michael Cohrs.
Mr. Philipp is the bank's top equities executive, and Mr. Cohrs reports to him. Mr. Cohrs, as head of global equity capital markets, is responsible for the origination and structuring of equity instruments.
Mr. DiPietro's appointment nearly rounds out the investment banking and equity management teams at the combined bank. Earlier, Deutsche announced that two Bankers Trust executives will head its global investment banking effort.
Yves de Balmann and Mayo Shattuck III, co-chief executive officers of BT Alex. Brown Inc., Bankers Trust's securities arm, were named global co- investment banking chiefs. Both men will be based in New York.
Deutsche has also nearly completed its appointments for the post-merger bank in London, where both banks have a large investment banking presence.
Donald Johnston and Graham Clempson, both Bankers Trust executives, and Deutsche's Christian Thun-Hohenstein will be co-heads of European investment banking. The three men will report to Mr. Balmann and Mr. Shattuck.
But Deutsche has turned to Bankers Trust executives to run European mergers and acquisitions. Mr. Johnston, Bankers Trust's head of European M&A, will continue in that role at Deutsche.
He will report to Jeffrey Goldstein and Glenn Lewy, global M&A co-heads at Bankers Trust, who will retain those jobs at Deutsche.
In addition, Lord Levene of Portsoken will become chairman of Deutsche's European investment banking operation in November, when he finishes his one-year term as lord mayor of London.
