W. Ronald Dietz has been appointed president and chief executive officer of American Savings Bank, White Plains, N.Y.
Mr. Dietz, who was also elected a director, succeeds William G. Lillis, who announced in December that he would retire on Oct. 31. Mr. Lillis stepped down as a director but will remain with the thrift until his retirement.
Chairman's Post Vacant
American Savings also said that John Lundberg, as previously announced, has resigned as chairman of the board but will remain a director. The thrift is leaving the chairman's post vacant.
Mr. Dietz, 48, had been chief executive officer of CorEast Savings Bank, Richmond, Va., for the past two years.
He said his "first priorities are to achieve compliance with regulatory capital requirements, reduce the bank's problem-asset portfolio in this difficult real estate environment, and improve the profitability and franchise value of American's 39-branch retail network.
