Discover Selects Card, Network Chiefs

Discover Financial Services put two executives in charge of its card and network businesses.

The Riverwoods, Ill., company has promoted Harit Talwar to chief marketing officer the executive vice president of card programs. Mr. Talwar had run Discover's network business since 2003. He succeeded Margo Georgiadis, who left the company.

Mr. Talwar will continue to report to Roger C. Hochschild, Discover's president and chief operating officer.

Diane E. Offereins assumed Mr. Talwar's old duties and was promoted to executive vice president of payment services, including the network business and the Diners Club International network.

Ms. Offereins had been an executive vice president and chief technology officer since 1998. She will continue to oversee the Pulse Network LLC debit unit, a job she has held since 2006.

Glenn Schneider, a senior vice president and the chief information officer for Discover, assumed Ms. Offereins' old duties.

The promotions took effect last month; a spokeswoman told American Banker about them Tuesday.

Discover said last week that David Nelms, its chief executive officer, has been elected chairman.
