England's Abbey National Beefs Up Its Stratus Installation

Abbey National PLC of London has completed installation of five new transaction-processing computers from Stratus Computer Inc. and has upgraded four previously installed.

Abbey is England's fifth-largest bank, with assets of $79.5 billion. With $10.4 million in fault-tolerant XA2000 Stratus systems and upgrades, Abbey has one of the vendor's largest banking installations in Europe.

Stratus is based in Marlboro, Mass. The systems and upgrades were installed at Abbey National's new computer center in Shenley Wood, England.

The continuously available Stratus systems and upgrades provide additional capacity for the Abbeylink automatic teller machine network and Abbey-loan consumer credit services.

Abbeylink reaches more than 860 ATMs and connects to the Link and Plus shared ATM networks. It is one of the few in the United Kingdom offering real-time balances. Abbeyloan offers a range of consumer lending products.
