Ex-Dole Aide Follows Friend of Hillary's to Futures Commission

A friend of Hillary Clinton's and a former aide to Bob Dole have been sworn in to positions on the Commodity Futures Trading Commission.

Last week David Spears, who worked for Sen. Dole from 1989 until this year, was sworn in to fill a vacancy on the five-person panel.

Earlier last month Brooksley Born, a lawyer with the Washington firm of Arnold & Porter, was sworn in as head of the agency, replacing Mary Schapiro, who had left for a post at the National Association of Securities Dealers.

The had Clinton administration put Mr. Spears' name forward to smooth the way for Ms. Born. Republicans had raised concerns about putting Ms. Born in a position where she might have to review Mrs. Clinton's trading activities.
