SAN FRANCISCO -- Joseph A. Mano 3d, former executive vice president of Westamerica Bank of San Rafael, Calif., has been sentenced to five years in prison for misapplication of funds and filing a false 1985 tax return, said John A. Mendez, U.S. attorney for the Northern District of California.
U.S. District Judge William Orrick sentenced Mr. Mano of Los Angeles to five years in prison and five years probation and ordered him to pay restitution. Mr. Mano must surrender to U.S. marshals Jan. 6. He pleaded guilty Oct. 9.
The indictment said he defrauded Westamerica Bank through real estate development loans that were made in return for cash, shares of stock, and limited partnership interests in the projects thus funded.
