Commercial Federal Corp. in Omaha has hired David S. Fisher as chief financial officer.

Mr. Fisher, 44, was treasurer and a senior vice president at $12.9 billion-asset Associated Banc Corp. in Green Bay, Wis. Earlier he was a senior vice president and director of funds management and bank investments at First of America Corp., which National City Corp. of Cleveland bought. He has 22 years of banking experience.

Commercial Federal Corp., which has $13.3 billion of assets, is the parent of Commercial Federal Bank.


Zurich U.S. in Schaumburg, Ill., a unit of Switzerland's Zurich Financial Services Group, has promoted John D. Cole to executive vice president and chief claims officer of its newly consolidated claims division.Mr. Cole moves up from executive vice president of the legal services department. He now heads the claims division, which encompasses legal services.

Before joining Zurich U.S., Mr. Cole was senior vice president and general counsel for the Maryland Insurance Group.


MIDDLE ATLANTICUBS Warburg has hired F. Burke Dempsey as managing director in charge of U.S. electronic finance and financial technology banking.

He will work in the financial institutions group in New York.

Mr. Dempsey was an executive vice president and director of capital markets at fbr.com, the online investment subsidiary of Friedman, Billings, Ramsey & Co. His 15 years in banking have included positions as a principal at Montgomery Securities in New York and as a vice president at Lehman Brothers in New York and London.

UBS Warburg has also announced the promotion of Suneel Kamlani to managing director and head of the debt capital markets group for the Americas.

He succeeds Bill Powell, who will return to the corporate finance department.

Mr. Kamlani has been in banking 16 years, most recently in a leadership role at UBS Warburg's debt capital markets group and fixed income and corporate finance divisions in Asia.

UBS Warburg is a subsidiary of UBS AG of Switzerland.


Toronto-Dominion Bank has hired Don Drummond as chief economist.He succeeds Ruth Getter, who retired this year.

Mr. Drummond is to oversee analysis and forecasts on Canadian industries, provincial economies, commodity prices, and government finances. He will also provide commentary on economic trends.

He has been an economist for the Canadian government for more than 20 years, most recently as associate deputy minister of finance.
