Mellon Bank Corp. in Pittsburgh has hired Craig R. Sutherland to be president and chief executive officer of Miami-based Mellon Trust of Florida, a newly created post.
Mr. Sutherland will also lead the company's private asset management activities in the state. This unit is Mellon's investment and wealth management subsidiary for high-net-worth clients.
The company said that Mr. Sutherland would report to Christopher Flanagan, who is senior vice president of portfolio management and strategic planning for Mellon Private Asset Management; Mr. Flanagan reports to David F. Lamere, president of Mellon Private Asset Management and chairman of Mellon Trust of Florida. Charles Ganz remains vice chairman of the Florida trust bank.
Mr. Sutherland previously worked at Sanford C. Bernstein & Co. in Miami, where he was vice president and a financial adviser to wealthy clients, as well as foundations, trusts, and retirement funds. Before that he was a senior vice president and director of investment management and trust services at Northern Trust Bank of Florida. He has more than 20 years of financial services experience.
Mellon Private Asset Management, which has $84 billion of assets under management and administration, has 20 Florida offices and about 40 professionals.
