Executive Changes: Mellon United of Fla. Names Trueba To Elite Unit, Presidency

Mellon United National Bank in Miami promoted Mario Trueba to president and appointed him and chief operating officer Mark Kaplan to the newly created office of the chairman.

Chairman and chief executive officer Gerald Katcher said the three-person office will set strategy for growth throughout South Florida. He was co-founder of United National in 1978.

Mr. Trueba, 40, is to oversee business development and share in the planing of corporate strategies, policies, and operations. He joined United National in 1989 as a vice president of commercial loans and was promoted to senior executive vice president last January.

Mr. Kaplan, 50, joined the bank in 1987 as senior vice president and chief financial officer. He was promoted to chief operating officer in 1998.


MIDWEST

M&I Data Services in Milwaukee has promoted Alexander R. Starrett to senior vice president, from vice president.Mr. Starrett is general manager in charge of M&I Data Services' custom statement formater initiatives, which include delivering composition tools for "mission-critical" custom documents and bills for financial services, utilities, and telecommunications companies. He joined the company 15 years ago as a business analyst.


WEST

Washington Mutual Inc. of Seattle has hired Ellie Cornfeld to be senior vice president and residential chief credit officer.Ms. Cornfeld is to direct the thrift company's nationwide network of appraisers and underwriters and oversee credit analysis and modeling, quality assurance, and construction lending to ensure credit quality.

She was director of marketing and risk management in the Northeast for Fannie Mae. She has 20 years of financial experience.
