Executive Changes: Top Merrill Exec In France Takes Similar Post At Hsbc Holdings

HSBC Holdings PLC of London has recruited Michel Fleuriet as chairman of HSBC France, a newly created post.

Mr. Fleuriet has been chairman of Merrill Lynch & Company France for eight years. Before that he was Chase Manhattan Bank's president in France.

He will start in his new job Wednesday.

Jeremy Davies will remain chief executive officer and group country manager of HSBC France.


MIDDLE ATLANTIC

United Technologies Corp. in Hartford, Conn., has named Sanford I. Weill, chairman and co-chief executive officer of Citigroup Inc., to its board of directors.United Technologies provides high-technology products and support services to the building systems and aerospace industries.

Mr. Weill, 66, is also a director of AT&T Corp. and Du Pont Co.


SOUTHEAST

Wachovia Corp. of Winston-Salem, N.C., has promoted vice presidents H. LeRoy Martin and Christopher J. Tierney to senior vice presidencies in its Wachovia Bank.Mr. Martin, who is based in Raleigh, N.C., is a senior private financial adviser in the trust and investment management group. He joined the company in 1966 as a tax accountant and has also worked as a trust administrator, manager of support services, and manager of trust administration. He was promoted to vice president in 1978 and assumed his current post in 1997.

Mr. Tierney, who is based in Atlanta, is a leveraged finance senior relationship manager for the bank and Wachovia Securities Inc. He joined the company in 1998 as a structured finance senior relationship manager. He has 10 years of experience in structured finance and equipment leasing experience.

Wachovia has also promoted vice president James L. Lantis to a senior vice president of Wachovia Bank Card Services. Mr. Lantis is a cardholder risk manger in Atlanta. He joined the company in 1996.


Hibernia National Bank in New Orleans has promoted Marsha Montgomery to vice president and Richard Stevens Jr. to assistant vice president in its treasury management department.Each has 12 years of banking experience. Ms. Montgomery, who was an assistant vice president, is a product manager for paper-based treasury management products and services.

Mr. Stevens, who was a bank officer, is a product manager for ATM and cash vault products.

Hibernia also hired Judith H. Griffin as its vice president of distributed systems. She will be in charge of nonmainframe computer applications for the company.

Ms. Griffin, who has 20 years of experience in information technology, had been the director of year-2000 readiness for Clarke American Checks.

Hibernia also hired Theresa A. Tamburo as an assistant vice president and staff attorney for lending laws.

She was an assistant district attorney for Orleans Parish. Ms. Tamburo will provide counsel on collections for foreclosures and bankruptcies.
