Global Payments Asia-Pacific Ltd. is offering merchants in Taiwan the ability to accept China UnionPay credit cards, which are widely used by consumers in mainland China.
Global Payments Asia-Pacific is a joint venture between Global Payments Inc. and Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corp. Ltd.
Accepting China UnionPay cards will enable Taiwanese merchants "to enhance their service to the growing number of mainland tourists," Ian Courtnage, Global Payments Asia-Pacific president, said in a press release last week. China UnionPay operates that country's only card network.
Global Payments serves merchants in 11 countries and territories across Asia.
