FDIC paves way for another de novo effort in North Carolina

Organizers of Spirit Community Bank in Statesville, N.C., have received approval from the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp.

The FDIC approved the proposed bank’s application for deposit insurance on Dec. 19. Organizers must raise $25.5 million before opening.

Overall, 15 de novo applications were approved by the FDIC in 2018. In comparison, the agency signed off on 10 charters over the prior two years.

Spirit was also the second proposed bank in North Carolina to secure FDIC approval. The agency on Dec. 3 approved an application by Community Bank of the Carolinas in Winston-Salem.
