Fidelity National in Pact with Obopay

Fidelity National Information Services Inc. of Jacksonville, Fla., plans to announce today that it will offer mobile person-to-person fund transfers through an alliance with the mobile payment processor Obopay Inc.

Fidelity said it will offer Obopay's P-to-P service to financial companies that use its core account processing systems. Initially, financial institutions will offer the service to customers with demand accounts or prepaid cards linked to a mobile device.

Customers of Fidelity institutions can send or receive funds directly to and from their accounts using the service, the company said. Noncustomers will need to establish Obopay accounts, which would help banking companies serve the underbanked.

Obopay's service operates by mobile Web, text messaging, or an application downloaded to the handset. Citigroup Inc. said last month that it has integrated Obopay funds transfers into its U.S. retail checking accounts.
