Fifth Third Completes Purchase of Kentucky Thrift

Fifth Third Bancorp said it has completed the acquisition of $276 million-asset Kentucky Enterprise Bancorp.

The Newport-based thrift was one of the largest in the greater Cincinnati area, said Robert Ernst, senior vice president of mergers and acquisitions at Fifth Third.

Fifth Third closed five of the 11 offices it acquired from Kentucky Enterprise, and Mr. Ernst said 42 jobs were eliminated. The deal, valued at $90 million, was announced Aug. 28. It gives Fifth Third $1.1 billion in assets.
