First Fidelity names O'Brien to head unit.

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. -- First Fidelity Bancorp. promoted Thomas H. O'Brien Jr., a senior credit policy official, to president and chief operating officer of Union Trust Co., its $2.6 billion-asset Connecticut subsidiary.

First Fidelity bought the Stamford-based bank and its parent. Northeast Bancorp, in May.

The New Jersey company also named Kenneth H. Thorn as president and chief operating officer of First Fidelity Bank, New York, which is based in Westchester County. The bank will have more than $2.5 billion in assets when pending acquisitions are completed.

Both executives joined First Fidelity over the past three years from Chemical Bank.

Mr. Thorn, who had been chief of consumer banking at First Fidelity, will be succeeded by Donald C. Parcells, an executive vice president who was in charge of operations and systems.
