First Tennessee Bank has purchased 85 new automated teller machines from Interbold, the ATM joint venture between Diebold Inc. and International Business Machines Corp.

The ATMs, which will be installed by the end of this month, all feature a new processing core that allows the terminals to more easily support check-image processing, coin dispensing, electronic-transaction record keeping, and advanced screen graphics.

The processing core "gives us greater flexibility and affordably," said Frederick Spratlin, vice president and manager in the Memphis-based bank's electronic-banking program.

First Tennessee, the lead bank of the $8.9 billion First Tennessee National Corp., owns about 200 ATMs.
