First Union Joins Fla. Theme Park on Stored-Value Card

In an extension of its Visa Cash effort, First Union Corp. has announced a joint promotion with Universal Studios Florida.

The banking company said it will offer in Atlanta a limited edition of more than 50,000 stored-value cards in a series highlighting various attractions at the Orlando theme park.

Although the smart cards cannot be used at the park, First Union expects them to appeal to travelers.

"Based on tourist industry projections, the next destination for many visitors - and new Visa Cash customers - following the summer games will be Florida," said Edgar Brown, senior vice president of the Charlotte-based bank's smart card program.

The cards come in prepaid denominations from $10 to $100, with designs depicting the likes of "Jaws" and "Back to the Future." After they are spent, the cards are good for $5 off Universal Studios admission, Mr. Brown said.

More than 20,000 "T2" Terminator 2 cards worth $5 will be made available for free promotional distributions.
