Fitch upgrades Signet and Crestar.

Fitch Investors Service Inc. last week upgraded Signet Banking Corp. and Crestar Financial Corp., both of Richmond.

The rating on Signet's 7 3/4% senior debentures due in 1997 was raised to BBB-plus from BBB-minus. Fitch cited improved asset quality and profitability and strong capital ratios.

Crestar's 7 3/4% senior debentures due in 1997 were upgraded to BBB-plus from BBB.
