Fleet Exec First Woman to Lead New England Council

A Fleet Financial Group executive has become the first woman to head the New England Council, a 75-year-old regional business group.

Anne Finucane, a senior vice president in marketing and communications, was appointed Monday to a two-year term as chairman.

The council is a bipartisan group representing business and economic interests throughout New England, said Ms. Finucane. It has 300 corporate members from the region's six states.

"It focuses on issues that bind us by geography rather than politics," Ms. Finucane said.

Fleet is one of New England's largest employers, she added.

Ms. Finucane is Fleet's only representative on the council.

She has worked at the $99.5 billion-asset banking company since September 1995.
