Fleet Plans 6 Hirings In Institutional Unit

Fleet Financial Group is looking to increase its presence in institutional asset management.

Under the stewardship of Ron Gwozdz, who began at Fleet Investment Advisors in August, the banking company plans to hire up to six sales professionals through 1999.

The new salespeople would join a staff of two, said Mr. Gwozdz.

He joined Fleet Investment Advisors as a senior vice president and managing director of Fleet's large institutional sales and client services. He previously worked at David L. Babson & Co., a Cambridge, Mass., asset manager where he was responsible for institutional marketing.

Fleet Investment Advisors manages $60 billion of assets for college endowments, pension plans, municipalities, not-for profit groups, and unions.

Mr. Gwozdz said it is unclear whether the people hired would be based in Boston or elsewhere. "It really depends on the person," he said. "We want people to understand the Fleet product across the country," he added.
