Florida Banks Inc. Names Executive

SOUTHEAST

Florida Banks Inc. of Jacksonville said Joseph M. Wheeler has been named president and chief executive officer of the Pinellas County office, scheduled to open in May, of its Florida Bank.

The 25-year banking veteran was president and CEO of SouthTrust Bank's Tallahassee region. Mr. Wheeler had come to SouthTrust from Barnett Banks Inc.; he had been executive vice president of Barnett Bank of Suncoast since 1996 and had held that rank at Barnett Bank of Pinellas County from 1982 to 1993.

Douglas A. Tuttle has been named Tampa president of Florida Bank, succeeding Jack McMullen, who has retired after 30 years in Florida banking.

Mr. Tuttle joined the bank last August as an executive vice president and senior lender. He had been a senior vice president and team leader of SouthTrust Bank of Florida's commercial lending division. Earlier he had worked for Barnett Bank of Tampa, First Florida Banks, Florida National Bank, and NationsBank.

Florida Bank has branches in Tampa, Gainesville, and Jacksonville.
