Frost National Bank shifts its imaging.

Frost National Bank is moving from a mainframe-based imaging system for preparing customer statements to an imaging environment using a network of personal computers.

The Texas bank's imaging system, from NCR Corp. and Cincinnati Bell Information Systems, captures checks at high speed, digitizes and stores the information, sorts and selects images for printers, and merges demand-deposit account check statement text with check images.

Frost National Bank, a member of the $3.4 billion Cullen/Frost banking organization, has been providing its San Antonio and Dallas customers with the image statement option for more than 2 1/2 years. More than 70% of new Frost accounts choose image-based statements.

These enhancements will allow the bank to increase its check processing from 150 items per minute to 500 per minute.

Frost handles volumes that run from 38,000 to 125,000 items per day.

Cullen/Frost Bankers Inc. is a holding company with four member banks and 27 offices in San Antonio, Houston, Galveston, Austin, Corpus Christi, and Dallas.

NCR is an AT&T company based in Dayton, Ohio.
