Gemalto Teams Up with mChek India

The smart card provider Gemalto NV of the Netherlands said Monday that it has struck a partnership with mChek India Payment Systems Pvt. Ltd. to improve security on Gemalto's SIM cards used for mobile financial services in Asia.

The companies have been collaborating since September on SIM cards that allow wireless phones to function as reloadable mobile wallets.

MChek, of Bangalore, offers technology that allows mobile banking, money transfer, mobile payments, and two-factor authentication, among other services.

"Together we aim to bring new levels of security and convenience beyond India and Sri Lanka into markets such as Bangladesh, Indonesia, and the Philippines," Tan Teck Lee, Gemalto's president for Asia, said in a press release.
