HNC supplying model to detect fraud, attrition.

HNC Software Inc. has introduced Eagle, a neural networkbased merchant risk management system to be used by acquiring banks in detecting fraud and preventing attrition.

Eagle uses neural networks to model typical card usage at each merchant location in an acquirer's portfolio in order to provide a statistical prediction of the likelihood of fraudulent activity or merchant attrition.

Daily and monthly risk scores are presented to a merchant risk analyst on a case-management work station.

The system provides a prioritized list of merchants for investigation, the information needed to perform investigation, suggested actions, and a means of reporting the results.

HNC also offers implementation consultation, attrition-prevention strategy recommendations, training, and telephone support.

HNC is headquartered in San Diego.
