Home Sales Surge in San Francisco

Home sales in the San Francisco Bay Area rose 45% last month, the biggest increase in more than six years, as buyers took advantage of discounted prices on foreclosed homes, according to MDA DataQuick. A total of 7,271 single-family houses and condominium units were sold in the nine-county Bay Area last month, up from 5,014 a year earlier, the San Diego real estate research company said Tuesday. The median price dropped to $400,000 in September, down 36% from a year earlier.
