COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Two major midwestern banking companies announced quarterly dividend increases this week.

Huntington Bancshares Inc. of Columbus declared a payout of 18 cents a share, payable Oct. 1 to common shareholders of record on Sept. 14. The dividend rose by 2 cents, or 12.5%.

First of America Bank Corp., Kalamazoo, Mich., increased its quarterly dividend by 3 cents, or 9.4%, to 35 cents. It is payable Oct. 30 to sharedholders of record on Oct. 9.

First of America last increased its dividend in August 1991.
