Hypercom Makes a Sale in Mexico

BBVA Bancomer, a Mexican unit of Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria SA of Madrid, has agreed to purchase more mobile payment terminals from Hypercom Corp. of Phoenix.

Hypercom announced the "multimillion dollar" deal Tuesday but did not give the exact price.

BBVA Bancomer agreed to buy more than 13,000 of Hypercom's Optimum T2100 countertop terminals and Optimum M2100 portable terminals. BBVA Bancomer has now purchased 21,300 Optimum terminals.

The T2100 is compatible with smart cards and can handle multiple currency types. The M2100 is designed for use at businesses such as restaurants.

BBVA Bancomer's "repeated selection of Hypercom … strengthens our footprint in this important market," Jaime Arroyo, Hypercom's managing director for the Caribbean and Central America, said in a press release.
