IBM, Calif. firm offer disaster recovery.

A division of International Business Machines Corp. has joined with a California technology firm to market disasterrecovery services to banks, thrifts, and credit unions in the western United States.

IBM Business Recovery Services, Sterling Forest, N.Y., and Bank Up, San Ramon, Calif., plan to offer item processing recovery support mclu.ding the development and renew of recovery strategies and test plans.

They will also offer technical support at live "hot site" backup centers, recovery teams at customer sites, anlt two recovery tests a year.

IBM Business Recovery Services has offered recovery facilities for large, midrange, and distributed computing environments at 17 sites throughout the United States.

But Iohn Barrett, president Of Bank Up, said, "IBM hasn't had [check processing] disaster recovery capabilities for' their customers west of the Rockies. ... It seemed like a logical fit for us to become their business partner."

Bank Up supports check processing recovery with proof machines, readersorters, and specialized software.
