IBM unit to co-market disaster recovery services to banks.

Business Recovery Services, a division of international Business Machines Corp., and Bank UP, of San Ramon, Calif., have agreed to jointly market disaster recovery services to financial institutions in the western United States.

Bank UP supports check processing recovery with proof machines, reader/sorters, and specialized software. Once checks have been encoded, data can be transmitted over communications lines to an AS/400 for processing at an IBM Recovery Center in Los Angeles or Seattle. Full recovery support is offered, including technical support at hot-sites, recovery teams at customer sites, courier services, resumption of telephone and electric utilities, two annual recovery tests, and development and review of strategies and test plans. Bank UP also provides a connection to the Federal Reserve's FedLine and offers electronic funds transfer capabilities.
