In Brief: 4 Funds with Loads for Old Kent Branches

Old Kent Financial Corp.'s broker-dealer plans to offer four new funds in the Grand Rapids, Mich., company's branches.

Unlike the current Kent Funds, which are sold mainly through Old Kent's trust department, the new portfolios will carry a load fee.

James F. Duka, president of the Kent Funds, said that the fund group's no-load structure was established three years ago, before Old Kent had a broker-dealer.

Three of the funds - a science and technology fund and two growth funds - will go on sale in July. The fourth, to go on sale within a year after that, will probably be an international fund, Mr. Duka said.

The Kent Funds comprise 14 portfolios and $6.4 billion of assets.
