In Brief: ABA Has How-To Books For Small-Bank Directors

The American Bankers Association has published a set of books for directors.

The five-volume series, "Focus on the Bank Director," is designed to help them understand the issues community banks face every day-from the demands of bank regulators to decisions on mergers and acquisitions.

Volume one, "Learning to Be an Effective Director, " examines such issues as bank oversight and management/board relationships. Volume two, "Directors and the Law," treats such issues as insider trading and insider borrowing. And volume five, "Mergers and Acquisitions," discusses the pros and cons of buying or selling a bank and offers lessons on how to avoid an unwelcome takeover.

The five volumes are available through the ABA for $355.
