In Brief: Ala. Company to Buy 3 Synovus Branches

Synovus Financial Corp. in Columbus, Ga., has a deal to sell three rural Alabama branches to a Birmingham banking company.

The Banc Corp. would buy the Opp, Samson, and Kinston offices of a Synovus affiliate, Community Bank and Trust of Southeast Alabama in Enterprise for an undisclosed price.

The deal, scheduled to close in October, also includes about $21 million of deposits and $9 million of loans.

A spokesman for Synovus said the company is selling the branches because it found they are "outside the footprint of where we want to be doing business."

Banc Corp. said it has also filed an application with its Alabama regulator to open an office in Andalusia, Ala., a town 10 miles from the branch it is buying in Opp.

Banc Corp., with $780 million of assets, is a three-bank holding company with 31 branches in Alabama and Florida.
