He will oversee all financial areas of Nova's subsidiary and joint-venture investments.
Mr. Scheppmann had been CFO for closely held Albecca Inc., a Norcross, Ga., distribution and manufacturing company, for 11 years. He succeeded board member Charles Cannada, who had been CFO while leading the search committee.
In a related announcement, Nova said it had hired Steve Stevenson as the first CFO of Nova Information Systems Inc., its primary business unit, which processes card payments for merchants.
He will be responsible for the development of pricing strategies and for maintaining the profitability of the processing engine, company officials said.
Mr. Stevenson was the CFO for privately held Lynk Systems of Atlanta.
