BankAmerica Corp. on Monday named Richard V. Downen president of its retail brokerage operation.

Mr. Downen, 47, will be responsible for combining the brokerage units of BankAmerica and the former NationsBank, which bought BankAmerica on Sept. 30.

Mr. Downen was previously chief operating officer for NationsBanc Investments. The post of president was originally held by Henry J. Rose, who had held the same role at NationsBank's brokerage unit. A bank spokesman said that Mr. Rose has "elected to retire."
