BankAmerica Corp. has named John C. Masters as chief executive of its Canadian subsidiary, Bank of America Canada.
Mr. Masters was promoted from his position as a Chicago-based senior managing director in the bank's North American corporate banking division. He succeeds Alfred Buhler, who is retiring after a lengthy career at BankAmerica.
The San Francisco-based banking company's Canadian unit provides various corporate banking services, including capital raising, cash management, trade finance, corporate lending, project finance, and foreign exchange.
Mr. Buhler was head of Bank of America Canada since 1992 and played a key role in developing support for legislative reforms that let foreign banks establish branch operations in Canada.
The reforms are to be reviewed by Canada's parliament later this year and could open opportunities for U.S. banks.
