In Brief: Barclays Hires B of A Investment Banker

NEW YORK - Barclays Capital, the investment banking arm of Barclays Bank PLC of London, hired Richard A. Simonson as managing director, the latest addition to its expanding investment banking division in the Americas.

Mr. Simonson joins Barclays from Banc of America Securities where he was managing director and head of global project finance, responsible for global advisory and debt capital raising, the investment bank said. He focused on telecommunications, power, infrastructure, and energy and process. At Barclays, Mr. Simonson is to focus on the telecom and media sectors and will be based in the firm's San Francisco office.

"Rick's appointment reaffirms our commitment to expansion in the U.S.," said Robert C. Griffin, head of investment banking in the Americas.

Barclays Capital has hired 16 senior-level bankers since the beginning of the year and plans to hire another 50 by the end of 2002, a spokesman for the company said.
