In Brief: BB&T Buying Va. Property/Casualty Firm

RALEIGH, N.C. — BB&T Corp.’s insurance unit said Monday that it plans to acquire property/casualty insurance agency Lowery D. Finley and Co. of Virginia Beach, Va.

Wade Reese, the president of BB&T Insurance Services, said the unit is planning two more acquisitions, but declined to give details, saying only that the deals would be announced next week.

The deal would make Finley BB&T’s 65th insurance agency. The transaction is expected to close in September, and the price of the deal was not disclosed. BB&T Insurance Services is a subsidiary of BB&T Corp., a $68.9 billion-asset financial holding company in Winston-Salem, N.C.
