In Brief: BB&T Buys Top S.C. Independent Broker

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - BB&T Corp. bought a Greenville, S.C., brokerage firm on Wednesday. The price was not disclosed.

Edgar M. Norris & Co. is the largest independent broker-dealer in South Carolina; it has 32 brokers in offices in Greenville, Anderson, Greenwood, and Columbia. It manages $900 million of assets.

The firm will be absorbed by BB&T's Scott & Stringfellow, a brokerage firm based in Richmond, Va.

BB&T has $56.7 billion of assets under management. It has 822 banking offices in the Carolinas, Virginia, Maryland, Georgia, West Virginia, Kentucky, and the District of Columbia.
