In Brief: Bush to Name Tex. Utility Exec to HUD Post

WASHINGTON President Bush has announced he plans to nominate Alphonso R. Jackson to be deputy secretary of housing and urban development.

A native of Dallas, Mr. Jackson heads American Electric Power in Austin, Tex. Before that he was president and CEO of the Dallas Housing Authority. His Washington experience comes from directing the Department of Public and Assisted Housing. He also was chairmanof the District of Columbia Redevelopment Land Agency Board.

Mr. Jacksons appointment was announced Friday.
