In Brief: Calif. Bank, Thrift Groups Agree to Merge

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The California Bankers Association announced late Friday that it would merge with the Western League of Savings Institutions, the state's thrift trade group.

As first reported in American Banker in July, the two groups plan to merge because changes in the industry have brought their concerns closer together. The union is expected to be completed by Oct. 1, and the group would be known as the California Bankers Association.
